[REVIEW] Himouto! Umaru Chan - EPISODE 3

Sunday, 30 August 2015

The third episode is titled

Umaru and Her Student

Welcome to another weekly review of Himouto Umaru-chan.
Episode 2 focused on Umaru’s friendship with Ebina-chan and taking a similar route – Umaru’s relations with another classmate is explored, Kirie Motoba.
Kirie isn’t a friend of Umaru and often can be seen looking at Umaru at the back of the class, whilst the rest of her peers praise Umaru for her smart studies and good looks, Kirie is in the shadows lingering with a dark aura.
Other pupils in the school comment about how scary Kirie is and how she’s often seen staring at Umaru as is if she’s jealous or plotting against her.

Umaru, while trying to downplay her perfect image tells Ebina of how she’s lost her student ID card, and how her clumsy habit should help Ebina to feel more confident, after saying their goodbyes, Umaru comes home to an empty house and unleashes her chibi mode and relaxes with her games. With a knock on the door, Umaru expects to find her brother but instead Kirie witnesses perfect Umaru Doma, as her real self, a NEET girl Otaku.
Umaru is in a sticky situation but when Kirie mistakes Umaru for her little sister, Umaru goes along with it and pretends that she’s Komaru and her big sister Umaru is simply not at home.
Kirie enjoys spending time with “Komaru” as she feels more confident along younger people, but also we learn that Kirie is also using this time together to plan on becoming closer to Umaru, whilst Umaru is secretly enjoying somebody pandering to her selfish needs.
All in all, Kirie is a misunderstood character. She’s not as scary as people think.

For the next part of the episode, we see Umaru watch The Grudge with her older brother, who later goes to the store afterwards. Left home alone, Umaru gets scared when the power goes out and greets Taihei with a hug once he returns.
As usual, Umaru in her chibi mode, pretends that scary films are nothing to be scared over, while we know that Umaru in her normal form, was scared and vulnerable, something that we don’t often see.

I pretty much enjoyed the episode as I find Himouto Umaru-chan less predictable than other series, but the second half revolving around a horror film did puzzle me.
I felt that this episode would have suited well to be aired during Halloween and it struck me as odd and misplaced. The episode felt like one short episode and a special clip hashed together.
Kirie’s story wasn’t as emotive as Ebina-chan’s and compared to last episode, it was a let down and there could have been more potential.

[REVIEW] Is the Order a Rabbit? - Episode 3

Friday, 28 August 2015
Welcome to another weekly review of "Is the Order a Rabbit?"

Episode Hop 3

Do You Remember the First Day You Got Drunk?

You Tried to Light a Campfire in Your Own Home, Didn't You?

This week I'll be reviewing Episode three, which introduces us to Sharo, another waitress and the final main character.
The beginning has us follow the “Rabbit House” girls who are shopping for mugs, following the idea of placing Tippy inside a large cup.
Whilst shopping for cups, Cocoa bumps into Sharo similar to a typical shoujo manga – both looking at the same cup and Cocoa’s love for Sharo blossoms.
Unfortunately for Cocoa, Sharo only has eyes for Rize, her school friend meaning that for Sharo, becoming part of the Rabbit Café clique is no issue. Sharo buys couple cups for her and Rize.

Teaware is discussed and Sharo seems to be an expert on the subject, causing others to assume that Sharo is a wealthy student, which isn’t exactly the case…
Sharo is already acquainted with Chiya (who was introduced in episode 2) as well since they live next door.
Once Chiya gets handed a lewd leaflet by Sharo, Chiya runs to the girls at the Rabbit House to spread the news and attempt to infiltrate this dodgy establishment

Once they reach their destination - Fleur de Lapin, our café girls find Sharo in a bunny maid costume. After deflecting their intentions of spying on their friend, the girls order some herbal tea and Sharo gives them explanations on the benefits of herbal tea.

The next part of the episode features Sharo and Chiya both visiting the Rabbit House, but with the stormy weather there’s no other option but to host a sleepover. Chiya and Sharo get to have a heart to heart in the bathtub together discussing the past.
Elsewhere, Rize and Cocoa both end up trying on Chino’s middle school uniform. The idea of a sleepover is nerve wrecking for Sharo, who is aiming to impress her idol – Rize and is worried that appearing in cutesy pajamas borrowed by Chino may damage Rize’s view of her.

Chiya asses that the situation needs some ghost stories as any sleepover would. Chino’s attempts of a ghost story falls flat as everybody predicts the ending – Tippy being the ghost. Where as, Chiya is the one with a talent for scaring others. Her ghost story ends up frightening the other girls so much that they have trouble sleeping. Sharo and Rize begin to bond in the middle of the night as both are too scared to walk in the dark.

I thought the episode was well done and similar to episode 2, where we met Chiya but the ending felt a bit flat as there was no cliffhanger.
The interactions between Sharo and Rize was nice to watch and I like the plot twist of Sharo appearing to be from a rich family when in reality she is dreaming about sales. I felt this plot twist was revealed too soon into the series though.

Now with all of the main girls being introduced, the next episodes of Is the Order a Rabbit should be much more fun to watch!

[REVIEW] Channel SNSD - Episode 3

Channel SNSD Episode 3

With this episode we get to see Taeyeon's Channel which takes up the first segment, and then afterwards we have another quiz show segment. The quiz shows seem to be for us to be able to watch all the members interact and show their sisterly bond.

Channel Taeyeon

Taeyeon has decided to go down the route of showing us various ways of how to spend our alone time. The studio has been prepared with props and we begin with an assembly of a monsters inc nanoblock figure.
Afer a while, Taeyeon gives us and shows us the colouring set that she's brought with her today. I really liked how Taeyeon decided to bring her own feel to the channel. We've seen her drawings previously through SNS and now we get to explore this side more.

Similar to Yoona, Taeyeon also declares herself a novice when it comes to art. The latest trends is adult colouring books which Taeyeon shows us and the use of a watercolour brush was nicely added. Whilst not majoring in Art, Taeyeon still shows some great skills and tips.
However, I felt that Taeyeon's channel did not have as much interaction as possible, watching someone colour a book is similar to watching a friend play games and being unable to join in too.

Quiz Segment

This segment is meant to dispel the false impressions that the public have about SNSD. Such as; can SNSD really eat chocolate? Yeah, don't worry, the topics discussed in this episode aren't that condensing.

The members get to interview each member more personal topics and the first victim is Sunny!

We've all previously known her for her aegyo act but when it comes to Sunny, the focus on everybody's minds is her sexy image enforced by her bikini selcas, which is the topic the girls jump to discuss.

Next is Yoona, chosen by Sunny who has noticed her recent influx of aegyo.
Ready to snatch the aegyo queen title, Yoona is next in the spotlight to prove herself. Sooyoung with the rest of the members challenge Yoona to phone a male celebrity and for him to declare her cuteness. After a hilarious phone call to Eunhyuk, Yoona fails her mission.

Hyoyeon is called up to the interview by Sooyoung. We get to see a glimpse of her inside thoughts, her dreams of being a wise mother and good wife which surprises snsd as her personality is strong. Yuri questions why her friends all seem to be guys and what her future husband would think.
Taeyeon also asks about her cooking skills - which is ok for Hyoyeon, Yoona can teach you anyway.

Before that happens, Yoona tests her on ability to do common household chores and following in Yoona's footsteps - it's a failed mission.

Sooyoung is up at the spotlight and is quickly interrogated by Seohyun who is ready for revenge after being dissed in the past. It seems that Seohyun is not the only victim to Sooyoung's sassy disses.
Sooyoung ends up teasing Tiffany's height and her blows even spread towards the crew members!

Taeyeon declares a member that is harming the beautiful image of SNSD, and it's none other than Yuri! Back again from episode 2 - her derp faces emerge.
Another challenge emerges, this time SNSD want to shock Yuri into giving us all another derp face with Hyoyeon being the chosen one of carrying out this plan.

The episode quickly closes after 5 of our 8 members have been interviewed and we get to see a quick glimpse of next week's continuation of the quiz show segment. Hope you all visit next monday for my weekly reviews of Channel SNSD!
